Scholarships
The GLS offers three scholarship awards listed below. These awards are based on demonstrated interest in German, and not on financial need.

German Language Summer Study Scholarship 2024
This scholarship for summer language study has been awarded once every three years, beginning in 2014. Applicants must have taken at least two classes at the German Language School during the four years prior to the award. The recipient will be able to choose the program that he/she prefers, in either the U.S. or in a German-speaking country. The award will be sent to the program to cover all or part of the tuition, and any excess can be used for personal expenses such as travel. Due to the $4,000 value of the scholarship, the GLS can award it only once every three years, and the award alternates between a youth and an adult recipient. This sequence is repeated every three years and in 2024 only youths between the ages of eight and 18 are eligible. Applications for 2024 are due by January 31, 2024.

Tuition Scholarship 2024
This annual scholarship is named in honor of Irmgard Schlenker, who was instrumental in establishing the STV German Language School. It is awarded every June to two adults and two children who have completed a German class at the STV German Language School in the past two years. The awards will be given in the form of a credit for one German language class to be taken during the next academic year (August through June). Applications are available in March each year and are due by regular mail by June 1.

Rustmann Language & Culture Scholarship 2024
Two annual scholarships are offered to high school seniors in the greater Sacramento area by the STV German Language School (The GLS Rustmann Language & Culture Scholarship) and by the German-American Cultural Center–Library (The GACC-L Laudi Language & Culture Scholarship). Applicants must have taken and successfully completed a minimum number of German courses as described in the application requirements. (Click below for more information.) This scholarship is not based on ethnicity or financial need. Applications for 2024 are due via regular mail by March 15, 2024, and winners will be selected by March 31.
